The declaration concerns particular materials; it does not establish animal welfare, traceability or overall garment compliance. This guide addresses ordinary garments within the EU Textile Regulation&#8217;s scope.<\/p>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"rule\">\n<h2 id=\"rule\">The requirement<\/h2>\n<p>Article 12 of Regulation (EU) No 1007\/2011 requires an indication when an in-scope textile product contains non-textile animal-origin parts. The prescribed English wording, reproduced in the <a href=\"https:\/\/single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu\/document\/download\/34fcf863-59ef-4352-8489-a2577102fd8f_en?filename=revised+FAQs+on+Regulation+1007-2011+-+published.pdf\">Commission FAQ, question 5.2<\/a>, is:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Contains non-textile parts of animal origin<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The information must be understandable and must not mislead consumers. First establish whether Article 2 covers the product; the rule is not a universal declaration for every animal-derived item sold in the EU. <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A02011R1007-20180215\">Regulation, Articles 2 and 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"examples\">\n<h2 id=\"examples\">What materials need attention?<\/h2>\n<p>The Commission&#8217;s FAQ includes leather, down, feathers, bone, pearl and horn. It interprets the requirement as applying even to small quantities, regardless of how a part is attached. Footwear has separate labelling rules. These are Commission explanations of the Regulation, rather than a separate legal instrument. <a href=\"https:\/\/single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu\/document\/download\/34fcf863-59ef-4352-8489-a2577102fd8f_en?filename=revised+FAQs+on+Regulation+1007-2011+-+published.pdf\">FAQ, questions 5.1\u20135.4<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wool, cashmere and silk are listed textile fibres in Annex I. Read together with Article 12, that distinction means their presence as textile fibres alone does not trigger this declaration. A wool garment can still need it because of another component, such as leather trim. <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A02011R1007-20180215\">Regulation, Article 12 and Annex I<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"languages\">\n<h2 id=\"languages\">Match the destination language<\/h2>\n<p>English is not automatically sufficient across the EU. Check the official language or languages required where consumers will receive the product, including any national exception. Ask the relevant national authority if acceptance of another language is uncertain. <a href=\"https:\/\/single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu\/document\/download\/34fcf863-59ef-4352-8489-a2577102fd8f_en?filename=revised+FAQs+on+Regulation+1007-2011+-+published.pdf\">FAQ, question 4.1<\/a>. Keep composition clearly separated from other label information, such as care instructions. <a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/business\/product-rules-compliance\/textiles-and-footwear\/textile-label\/index_en.htm\">Your Europe textile-label guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"workflow\">\n<h2 id=\"workflow\">Before artwork approval<\/h2>\n<p>This is a suggested working method, not an additional legal requirement:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ask suppliers to identify each trim, fastening and filling. Record uncertainty instead of guessing from appearance.<\/li>\n<li>Keep fibre composition and non-textile parts as separate checks. Resolve ambiguous materials with supporting supplier information, and record who resolved each question so the next review has a clear starting point.<\/li>\n<li>Record the intended countries of sale and check the wording in each relevant language.<\/li>\n<li>Review artwork against the confirmed garment specification.
